Forensic media authentication

Evidence you can stand behind.

Synthetic media has reached the courtroom. Attestor examines photographs, video and audio for signs of AI generation and manipulation — and gives you a reproducible, court-ready report with a verifiable chain of custody.

The Attestor seal — media evidence, examined
Every report carries the seal, the examination record, and the hashes to prove it.

Built for the people who carry the burden of proof

Litigators

Challenge or defend disputed exhibits — a photo tendered in a family matter, a voice recording in a commercial dispute, footage in a criminal brief. Attestor gives your challenge technical footing, in language a court can follow.

Investigators

Triage incoming material fast. Licensed investigators use Attestor to screen media before it enters a report, flagging items that need a full examination and documenting the ones that pass.

Insurers & compliance teams

Claims arrive with photographs. Some of them were never taken. Screen claim media at intake and escalate anomalies with a documented basis, not a hunch.

The examination method

Three stages, every time
Stage I

Intake & custody

The file is hashed (SHA-256) the moment it enters Attestor. Every subsequent action — analysis, export, access — is appended to a tamper-evident custody log. Your exhibit stays exactly as received; all work happens on verified copies.

Stage II

Multi-signal examination

No single test decides authenticity. Attestor runs independent signal families — provenance and Content Credentials (C2PA) verification, metadata consistency, compression and re-encoding history, pixel-level error analysis, and screening for statistical artefacts characteristic of generative models — and reports each finding separately, with its confidence stated.

Stage III

The report

A plain-language findings summary for the reader, a technical appendix for the expert, and the full custody log for the record — exported as a sealed PDF with embedded hashes so the report itself can be verified later.

Independent validation, in the open

A tool used in legal proceedings should not ask to be taken on faith. Attestor's examination methodology is documented in a public white paper, and we are engaging university research groups in digital media forensics to test it independently — on their datasets, on their terms, with results published whatever they show.

What Attestor is, and is not

  • Attestor's findings are probabilistic, not verdicts. Reports state what was found, the confidence of each signal, and what could not be determined.
  • Attestor is a tool for professionals. It supports expert analysis and testimony; it does not replace them, and no report should be tendered as a substitute for a qualified expert where one is required.
  • Absence of detected artefacts is not proof of authenticity, and detection of anomalies is not proof of fabrication. The report language reflects this, deliberately.
  • Exhibit files are encrypted at rest, never used to train models, and deleted on your instruction — permanently, custody log excepted.
